California Redemption Value (CRV)

What is California Redemption Value?

In California, consumers pay CRV on most packaged beverages. The majority of these beverages are packaged in aluminum, glass, plastic, and bi-metal containers. The exceptions are milk, most wine, and distilled spirits, which are not included in the CRV program. 

The items which you pay CRV on are eligible for a CRV refund. CRV is 5 cents on containers less than 24 ounces and 10 cents for each container 24 ounces or higher.

Beverage containers that are eligible for CRV refund are labeled with one of the following :

• California Redemption Value
• CA Redemption Value
• California Cash Refund
• CA Cash Refund
• CA CRV

How do You Receive Your CRV Refund?

You can receive your beverage container refund by weight or on a per-container basis. (If recycling more than 50 containers of any one material type, the decision to pay by count or weight is determined by the recycling center operator.)

Per-container basis:

When recycling on a per-container basis, you will be paid the full CRV redemption of 5 cents for containers less than 24 ounces and 10 cents for each container 24 ounces or higher. You may request to be paid on a per-container basis up to the following:

•  50 aluminum cans
•  50 glass bottles
•  50 plastic bottles
•  50 bi-metal cans

By weight:

When recycling by weight please make sure that your load is segregated and only contains eligible CRV beverage containers.

Please remove all contamination, for example, dirt, moisture, and any other contaminants.

The state of California does not allow any daily loads that exceed the weights mentioned below.

• Maximum 100 pounds of CRV aluminum
• Maximum 100 pounds of each CRV plastic resin #1 thru #7
• Maximum 1,000 pounds of CRV glass

If your load exceeds the above weights mentioned above, we must either reject the load or pay only scrap value for the entire load.
